There is always something to do here!
Most events aren't advertised very well and so we often find ourselves learning about these opportunities at the very last minute. It amazes me how this country does not market or advertise like we do back in the U.S. It is like night and day... and as a marketing professional this continues to drive me nuts! ;-)
We recently learned that this Sunday is The Hague's International Day where various organizations and embassy's are open to the public. (No, the U.S. embassy isn't open. Too bad, as I would have loved to check it out.)
Some of the organizations and embassy's who's doors are open, to a limited number of people who register in advance, are:
Europol
Eurojust
European Patent Office (EPO)
International Criminal Court (ICC)
Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
International Court of Justice, Permanent Court of Arbitration and The Carnegie Foundation (all in the Peace Palace)
Embassy of the Republic of Croatia
Embassy of The Republic of Kenya
Residence of the Swedish Ambassador
(By the way, just as a side note... Carrie's office is located directly next door to Europol and near the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).)
Since we are 'late' in learning about this event, we were somewhat limited with what we could sign up for; however, we have just received our confirmation back and we are confirmed for tours of both Eurojust and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Both tours include a discussion on the organization's purpose, which will be great for us since we really don't know anything about either of these.
Unfortunately no cameras are permitted... therefore, we will not be posting any photos afterward on this blog.
