Lausanne Switzerland

While Carrie was working on Friday, I decided to take the train and proceed on to Lausanne where we were interested in spending our weekend.  It was a beautiful day and Lausanne is only a short train ride away from Geneva.  (It took me approximately one hour to get from the Geneva airport to our hotel room in Lausanne, despite three train stops and a quick stop in the Lausanne information center.)

Lausanne is located on the Switzerland side of Lake Geneva and it is home to the International Olympic Committee.  The city is built on hills and so if you ever plan to visit this city... well, be prepared to get some exercise!  Directly across the lake are the impressive French Alps and surrounding the city are several vineyards.

Carrie had arrived after her work on Friday and we went on to enjoy a great weekend.  We had even taken the bus over to the neighboring community of Lutry on Saturday, despite the rainy weather.  You will see from our photos that Lutry is a very quaint area.  This past weekend was their Fall Harvest Festival to celebrate the harvesting of the grapes.

Interestingly, Lausanne offers free wifi throughout various parks and main centers within the city.  They also offer free public transportation.  It is a beautiful city and a place that we recommend to others who would like to explore Switzerland; however, be forwarned, Switzerland is not cheap.

Enjoy the photos!
