GO ORANJE!

It's time for Euro 2012!!!

This Saturday, June 9th, The Netherlands will take on Denmark for their first game in this competition.  This weekend starts what is called the 'Groups Round'.  There are a total of 4 groups, which are comprised of 16 teams.  Holland is joined with Denmark, Germany and Portugal in Group B.  Next Wednesday, June 13th, Holland will take on Germany and on Sunday, June 17th, they will face off against Portugal.

'Oranje' is the nickname for The Netherlands national football team.  'Do you know that The Netherlands holds the record for playing the most World Cup finals without ever winning a final game?  They finished second in 1974, 1978, and 2010 World Cups, losing to West Germany, Argentina and Spain respectively.  Holland won the European Championship in 1988.

Last August the team ranked number 1 in the FIFA world rankings, thus becoming the second national football team, after Spain, to top the rankings without previously winning a World Cup.

The Netherlands remains one of the strongest football nations in the world.'
