The New Year's Dive 2013

De Unox Nieuwjaarsduik 2013... or... "The New Year's Dive 2013"

No, we didn't participate in this...  it was WAY TOO COLD FOR US!  We just watched.

In Den Haag (over near the Kurhaus on Scheveningen beach) there is an annual 'North Sea plunge' that takes place at noon on New Year's day.  The video below will show you how crazy the dutch (& others) can be.  Lot's of singing and dancing took place, which seems to be a key component to many of the local festivals.

There were thousands of people and all from so many different places.  Den Haag is so culturally diverse and it is so great to see everyone celebrating the new year together.

The video begins with approx. 30 seconds of 'preparation' footage and then the 'pre-plunge' excitement begins!  After the dip... free hot pea soup and hot chocolate to everyone!

Den Haag - New Years Eve Fireworks

If you have never experienced New Year's Eve in Den Haag, well... you are missing something spectacular!

This was our first New Year's eve experience here and, yes, it was quite unique!  From the morning of New Year's eve day until around 11:30 pm we could hear fireworks consistently going off nearby our home.  They didn't stop at 11:30 pm, but simply became much more intense!  The inensity lasted until around 1:30am.  Within approx. 100 yards of our home we had at least eight (8) different firework displays taking place.

We can try to describe what this was like... but a better way is to share this video (found on YouTube) that will do a much better job illustrating what we had experienced.

Check it out...  2012 - 2013 New Year's Eve Fireworks in The Hague

Cheers to a healthy, happy and prosperous 2013!

Who's the President?

We know this is old content... but we just became aware of this YouTube video showing footage of this former event.  So... Enjoy!

2012 - Who's the President?

Sorry for the Delay!

Sorry for the long delay in posting content.  We had taken some time 'away', as we had traveled back to the U.S. for the Christmas holiday.  Additionally, things have been a bit busy upon our return back to the Netherlands.

However, we are now back!  Look for more posts soon!
